A testable research direction.

“Unique among these LLMs” does not mean “new to astrophysics.” The repo contains a useful synthesis and candidate methods, but no sky-data result or validated improvement in an r likelihood.

Established

LOS mixing & tomography

Different spectra and projected orientations can produce frequency-dependent polarization. Starlight information was already proposed as a remedy.

Useful extension

Explicit failure diagnostics

The new notes derive a coherence bound, exact inversion conditioning and a spectral-nullspace test. These clarify the research; priority is unestablished.

Validate the value of distance

Test whether correctly associated 3D information improves held-out polarization predictions beyond equally flexible empirical and deliberately shuffled priors.

The experiment worth doing

  1. Freeze the comparison. Same frequency basis, training data, parameter budget and foreground treatment. Vary only the prior information.
  2. Fit three alternatives. Empirical moment priors; tomography-conditioned priors; matched sham priors with geometry associations shuffled.
  3. Predict data kept out of the fit. Hold out frequencies and contiguous sky regions. Prevent leakage from 353 GHz or shared data reductions into both prior and test.
  4. Measure accuracy and uncertainty. Compare predictive log score, Q/U residuals, cross-split residual spectra and coverage. Include calibration, angle and bandpass nuisance terms.
  5. Only then test r. An end-to-end instrument simulation and tensor likelihood must establish bias, σ(r), sky coverage and robustness to misspecified priors.

A successful result could establish a practical gain from tomography. A null result would constrain which ancillary information is actually useful. Neither outcome is already in this repository.
